Dr Wendy van Duivenvoorde
(PhD, MA)
Associate Professor in maritime archaeology at Flinders University, Dr Duivenvoorde brings an extensive skill set and international knowledge base to the Winwell Foundation.
Her current research focuses on the archaeology of ships & seafaring (including remains of Western Australia’s early European shipwrecks), technology advancement & transfer, culture contact & communication at sea, Indigenous agency in maritime industries, ship construction & 3-D modelling and photogrammetry.
She has undertaken archaeological research on sites and collections dating from the ancient to historical periods in Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Madagascar, the Netherlands, Spain, Turkey, North America and Australia.
As Maritime Archaeology Program Co-ordinator, Dr Duivenvoorde expanded Flinders’ unique field-based teaching/learning components to make graduates ‘workforce ready’ and desirable to hire in Australia and overseas.
Dr van Duivenvoorde has been the recipient of a number of recent awards and is the Chief Investigator for several major research grants. Wendy lives in Adelaide with husband Mark and their young children.
